'Skyfall' actor says he's 'totally certain' he won't be asked to play the Timelord
Rory Kinnear has insisted he won't be the next star of Doctor Who. Current Timelord Matt Smith announced last month (June) that he will be leaving the show at the end of this year. Viewers will see his Doctor regenerate during the upcoming Christmas special. Kinnear, best known for playing MI6 officer Bill Tanner in the last two Bond movies, had been the bookies' favourite to succeed him. However, he now appears to have ruled himself out.
'I haven't been and I am totally certain that I will not be asked to be the next Doctor Who,' Kinnear told The Independent. 'If I was an actor who was really longing to play Doctor Who, then this would be torturous, but it's a programme I've never watched, so I don't even really know what it is.' According to a recent report, the new Doctor Who star is 'almost certain' to be announced just before filming begins on the Christmas special in August or September. Other actors linked to the iconic role include Ben Daniels ( House Of Cards), Dominic Cooper ( The History Boys), David Harewood ( Homeland) and Julian Rhind-Tutt ( Green Wing). Meanwhile, Matt Smith's Doctor will return in the show's 50th anniversary special airing on November 23. In addition to current companion Jenna-Louise Coleman, he'll be joined for the episode by his Doctor Who predecessor David Tennant and popular past companion Billie Piper.
